Women’s March: Tale of Two Cities DC & Oakland

As I reflect on this past weekend I don’t want to forget what I felt in the midst of the historic Women’s March on Washington: hope, unity, power, inspiration, upliftment, enlightenment, strength. Earlier that week DC had felt eerily quiet as I walked along the inaugural parade route days ahead of Trump’s swearing in. Let's just say it was a very different vibe from when I covered Obama’s inauguration four years earlier. Near the White House, I saw a group of people holding “Thank you Obama" signs standing opposite another group taunting them, laughing and yelling, telling them to go home. My heart sunk.

A day after Trump’s inauguration...quite the opposite happened, my heart filled with hope as I joined the thousands who marched on Washington in a show of support and solidarity for not just women but for everyone. Here are some moments from the march...

Let's Get Naked at a Tokyo Onsen

Konnichiwa! I wish I could turn back time to the magic I felt in Tokyo which was the week before everything changed. With all this post-election & Thanksgiving stress, I think everyone can benefit from spending a few hours at a traditional Japanese hot spring/bath house.

Now I know why I wasn't meant to get a tattoo. So I could experience an authentic Japanese onsen...no tattoos allowed! On my last day, I headed to Odaiba Oedo Onsen Monogatari. It’s the theme park of onsens with carnival games, a fortune teller, and food stalls! Families spend all day here and some even spend the night since it's open from 11am-9am.

Reflections: New Passport, New Adventures!

Last week I expedited my passport in 24 hours so I could fly to Tokyo for the weekend! I had so much fun, I extended the trip to a week :) More on that next week!

First thing to know, this is a cruise for people who don’t cruise! Forget all those cruise stereotypes and let me quote Gandhi here...be the change you want to see in the world! Yes, I just wrote that.

Fathom's Dominican Republic cruise is a steal at $249 plus taxes and fees for 7 days (you can even bring your own wine!) but the real headline here is the impact you have on the Dominican people (we participated in 3 volunteer activities) and the new friends you meet on the ship!
